Where to hike on Mount Etna
Etna offers hiking trails for every type of visitor: from short walks through high-altitude woods to more demanding climbs toward the summit craters. The south side, where Magma 610 is located, is one of the most convenient starting points for organising a hike, with marked trails just minutes from our apartments.
Among the most popular destinations are the trails through the Ragabo Pine Forest, the Silvestri Craters and, for more trained hikers, the routes climbing toward the summit craters, also accessible with the accompaniment of licensed alpine guides.
How to reach the trails from Pedara
From Pedara, Etna's south side is accessible within minutes by car: the main trailheads — such as Piano Vetore, Rifugio Sapienza and the Silvestri Craters — are between 20 and 40 minutes from our independent accommodation. It's one of the reasons Pedara is a convenient base for anyone wanting to dedicate several days to hiking without changing accommodation.

When to go and what to bring
We recommend setting off early in the morning, both to avoid the hottest hours in summer and to enjoy the best light along the trail. Hiking boots with good soles, layered clothing and enough water are essential: the temperature at altitude can be very different from the valley below, even in high summer, and wind above 2000 metres can be quite strong.
In the colder months, some high-altitude trails require crampons and specific equipment: always check weather conditions and, if you have no winter mountain experience, consider a guided hike.
Hiking Mount Etna and your stay at Magma 610
Our two independent apartments in Pedara are also designed for anyone organising several days of hiking on Etna: a well-equipped kitchenette for preparing breakfasts and packed lunches, an outdoor courtyard for storing backpacks and gear, and the flexible hours needed by those setting off early in the morning to reach the high-altitude trails.
