Alcantara Gorges
The Alcantara Gorges are a natural canyon formed as lava cooled on contact with the river, which over centuries carved basalt rock walls up to 50 metres high. It’s one of the most visited natural sites in eastern Sicily.
They’re about a 40-minute drive from Pedara. We recommend footwear with good grip and, if you plan to wade in, a change of clothes: the river water stays cold even in summer.
